The Property

A home of exceptional craftsmanship

Winterwood was designed and built in 1999–2000 on a gently sloping site of 0.6 acres, constructed under the supervision of Engineer Cathal Hurley to the specifications of Architect Pat Cullinane, using the finest local and imported materials throughout. Its current owners have been in residence since its completion in August 2000.

The property extends to approximately 279 sq m (3,150 sq ft) across multiple levels, taking full and clever advantage of the natural gradient of the site. The result is a home of genuine architectural character: a raised kitchen, large open-plan living and dining areas, three separate entrance points, and a fully fitted bar in the lower level.

Privacy is exceptional. Winterwood adjoins a large area of protected woodland with a stream running from the golf course to the shore — common ground held by demesne residents and not available for development. Electric gates secure the entrance to a spacious driveway with independent entry and exit lanes and ample parking for multiple vehicles.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Built to a standard rarely seen

Stone & Structure

Two thirds of the external walls are clad in dry-faced Ballydesmond stone, also featured inside on all levels and at the entrance porch. Every external wall is dryline-finished with foil insulation and plasterboard for superior heat retention.

Floors & Surfaces

Living areas floored in Australian Redgum timber from the Murray-Darling Basin — exceptionally dense and hardwearing. Italian black marble in the kitchen, Welsh Bangor slate flooring, Liscannor stone paving, and reclaimed slob brick once used as ballast on Dutch ships bound for Cork over 250 years ago.

Master Craftsmanship

The main staircase and hand-carved traditional Irish timber features were crafted by master woodworker Dave O'Connell — unique to any home in Ireland. The kitchen was hand-built from Irish oak by Dutch craftsman Anton Stoap, with centuries-old brass portholes set into the staircase.

Roof & Fireplaces

Heavy-duty Spanish slate from the Franvisa quarry. All fireplaces feature cast iron stoves with excellent heat output. Four separate heating zones off an oil-fired system, with recently upgraded composite decking on all three balconies.

Gardens & Grounds

The extensively landscaped 0.6-acre site is anchored by a magnificent 350-year-old oak. Beech and griselinia hedges complete the private setting. Two timber outbuildings, including one fully insulated and electrified studio space with lighting and power.

Future Potential

The generous 0.6-acre site offers genuine development potential subject to relevant planning permissions — a number of neighbouring demesne homes have extended in this manner, making this an exceptional opportunity for the right buyer.
